About Us

Drimoleague Concrete Works Ltd, formerly Kealkill Sand & Gravel was established in 1970, when Bob Murnane & Dinny O’Shea opened a sand and gravel pit at Moulavanig Kealkill, where they installed a gravel washing plant and a Readymix Concrete Plant.  From here they produced and delivered Readymix and Aggregates throughout West Cork, initially to their own building sites but expanding to supply many other Builders, Farmers, Local Authorities, Civil Engineering Works & Private House Builders.

The original fleet purchased was two Readymix trucks and two tipper trucks. These were painted the Green and White colours which the Company fleet still proudly displays to the present day.  That green and white coloured truck coming in to the yard or site is regarded and respected as a mark of quality by all of our customers.

In 1980 the company purchased the current depot at Bredagh Cross Drimoleague Co Cork, changed name to Drimoleague Concrete Works Ltd and installed a block making unit and a new readymix plant there.  This was a major move as it placed the main depot and production unit in a much more central position in West Cork which allowed it to supply a much larger customer base.

A Sand and Gravel pit in Macroom Co Cork was also acquired by the Company in 1980 and a washing plant installed there.  High quality Sand, Chip, Concrete Gravel, Hardcore, & Grit are produced here to the present day.

In 1981 a stone quarry with a crushing plant was purchased in Drimoleague.  Here all grades of crushed stone for roadmaking, drainage, and general fill, were produced for supply to our ever increasing number of customers.  In 2002 a new Quarry was purchased at Coolbane Caheragh Drimoleague and the rock quarrying and crushing operations were moved to the new site, all stone production is now done at Coolbane where high Quality Green fine grained sandstone is quarried for the production of rock armour, stone fill and all grades of crushed stone.

In 2002 the Company purchased a site in Ballard Castletownbere and having obtained the Relevant Planning Permission installed a readymix plant there to service the Beara Peninsula.

Quality is our number one priority on all our products which are regularly tested and CE Certified. Our Readymix Concrete has carried the relevant certification since 1993, the current relevant Standard for Concrete is I.S. EN 206-1: 2002 which the company strictly adheres to.

We are the longest serving Readymix Concrete supplier based in West Cork having continually produced and delivered Readymix Concrete since 1970.
